Upstream has released updates that appear to apply and compile correctly.
This update has not been tested by PaperMC and as with ANY update, please do your own testing

Subject: [PATCH] Add Lifecycle Event system
This event system is separate from Bukkit's event system and is
meant for managing resources across reloads and from points in the
PluginBootstrap.
